Weekly Snapshot

As a leader in music education School of Rock has launched remote lessons as well as a series of Master Classes and Artist Series so our students can stay connected with each other and their instructors. This page is updated weekly with everything going on in the School.

LAST UPDATED:04/25/2021

With the approval of state and local governments, beginning Saturday 5/1/2021, we will enter into Phase 2 of reopening which will include the following requirements and recommendations:

  • Remote lessons and group sessions will remain an option for students that wish to continue staying home at this time. If you wish to remain remote with the same schedule, there is nothing you need to do at this time. If you wish to move forward with in-person instruction starting 5/1/2021, reply to this email to let us know, and please specify whether or not your current schedule works for you.

  • IMPORTANT: Students and staff will be allowed to enter the schools to take part in 1-on-1 lessons. In rooms that are large enough for social distancing, the student and teacher will be allowed to be in the same room with masks. If not, additional barriers such as a second face mask and/or a face shield are required, otherwise arrangements will be made to conduct the lesson in a larger room. In order to accommodate this, lesson/class times may need to be shifted, so your flexibility and cooperation will be very much appreciated.

  • Group sessions including Little Wing, Rookies, Rock 101 and Adult Rehearsals can also begin during phase 2 where social distancing and group size requirements can be met.

  • Performance Program group sessions will finish out this (Spring 2021) season online with audio/video recordings until the Virtual Shows on Sunday May 23rd, 2021. In person rehearsals will resume starting June 1st, 2021 for the Summer 2021 Season (ending Sunday August 29th, 2021) where social distancing and group size requirements can be met.

ALL STUDENTS MUST:

  • Successfully complete a digital >>Health Screening Form<< PRIOR to entering the building and no more than 24 hours before their next scheduled service. (parents must complete if student is under 18);

  • Take their temperature using our contact-free thermal readers. If a student’s temperature reads 100.4°F or above, they will be sent home, which will result in forfeiting the lesson as we pay our instructors for lessons cancelled within 24 hours. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of any kind before a scheduled appointment, you have the following options:

    • If, the day or two before your scheduled appointment, you’re not sure whether or not to bring a student in, please email us at pasadena@schoolofrock.com at least 24 hours prior to the lesson/class start time to schedule a makeup lesson. This is our standard policy.

    • You may choose to take that lesson remotely from home at no additional cost. This option must occur during the normal lesson time.

    • If cancelled within 24 hours, you may also purchase a “same day cancellation” makeup lesson (online or in-person) for a late fee. Please ask our front desk staff for more information.

    • As always, makeup lessons can not be rescheduled.

  • Wash/sanitize hands upon arrival and frequently throughout the day;

  • Wear a mask at all times inside the school. *A second mask or additional face shield is highly recommended.

  • Maintain social distancing of 6 feet at all times, whenever possible;

  • No more than 10 people in a room at any given time, while maintaining social distancing;

  • Only be at the school for their scheduled lesson or rehearsal (no hanging out indoors, waiting for their lesson to start indoors, or waiting for their ride to pick them up indoors);

  • Bring their own water bottles and water. Students will not be allowed to use water fountains or water coolers, or take off their mask inside the building to take a drink of water;

  • Not bring any food into the building. Please be sure students eat and discard food containers/cutlery/napkins before entering the building.

  • Bring their own picks, drumsticks, folders w/ lesson materials, and ear protection. All guitarists and bassists must bring their own instruments. Drums and keyboards (and any shared surfaces) will be sanitized by staff between lessons and before rehearsals.

  • Vocalists are now required to bring their own microphone to rehearsals. We have microphones available HERE in a range of prices. Inexpensive microphones can also be found at a number of online retailers. If you purchase on your own please make sure they have an XLR connection. We can help you make the right selection for your student. Due to the increased breathing and exposure inherent in singing, we will also require an additional step be taken to separate the vocalist from the group such as a face shield or a room divider. There are a number of singing mask and face shield options available. Please talk to your GM or MD to discuss what you feel comfortable with.

  • IMPORTANT: We love our parents, siblings and family members, but please understand that we can only allow students and staff in the school at this time. We request that parents and all other non-students and non-staff remain outside of the school for the duration of your student’s lesson and call us at (626) 508-1818 or email us at pasadena@schoolofrock.com if you have any questions. All students must wait in the car with their parent/guardian until their lesson/class start time at which time they may enter the building, and students must be picked up at the end of their lesson time as they can not wait inside the building for someone to pick them up. This is all for the health and safety of the students and staff.

  • We will be monitoring the entry doors to check that parents and all other non-students and non-staff adhere to the above policy.

  • Please help us by explaining to your student(s) that wearing a clean mask, frequently washing/sanitizing their hands, and social distancing (at least 6ft whenever possible) is required at School of Rock until further notice.

  • We will also have plexiglass partitions in place at the front desks for further protection for our Studio Coordinators and/or GMs.

  • To the extent that it is possible, we will open windows/doors to the outside for increased ventilation and do what we can to increase the efficiency of our building’s air filtration system.

Group Sessions: As stated above, select group sessions, classes and/or rehearsals may reopen 5/1/2021, but on a limited schedule, depending upon the number of students and the ability to maintain safe social distances.

  • All requirements for entering the school for lessons apply to rehearsal.

  • Depending upon cast numbers, rehearsals may be split into waves in order to comply with local mandates.
